The Construction Material series explores the contrast between industrial modernity’s use of generic, mass-produced materials—like steel, plastic, and concrete—and the rich, diverse materiality of specific places. By reproducing industrial materials by hand using local resources, the series critiques how architecture and design have distanced themselves from ecosystems and manual traditions. These works also reference “techno-fossils”—man-made materials embedded in the earth—highlighting the Anthropocene era, where human activity has permanently altered the planet’s geological makeup.
